FIND WAYS TO SERVE:we do this stuff every week...sunday The CIA (Christ in Action) puppet team is open to all 7th-12th graders. The team performs puppet shows at Asbury, other churches, and in the community throughout the year. Their shows are a combination of white and black light puppetry, sticks and dramatic sign language. missions are a big focus for the team. in april the team is going to philadelpia, mississippi to the choctaw indian reservation to serve and share the Gospel through puppetry to the people there. snf setup | 4:00-5:00 come at 4:00 before choir and help set up the tables and chairs for SNF. youth choirs | 5:00-6:00 our junior high choir is called Voices of Christ (VOC). VOC is open to 7-9th grade students and meets every Sunday night from 5-6 pm in the hope basement. VOC sings mostly contemporary style music and leads worship once a month. they also go on a four-day choir/mission tour at the end of the school year. our senior high choir is CHRIST choir (Christ Has Risen In Singing Teens) is open to students in 10-12th grades. They meet every sunday night from 5-6pm in the choir room under the sanctuary. CHRIST choir sings various styles of music and leads worship twice a month. they travel throughout the United States on a weeklong choir/mission tour at the beginning of the summer. monday after school | 3:30-5:30 harvest youth club each Monday a group of students goes to the Harvest Youth Club in Harvest to help K-6th grade students with their homework. We also spend time with them playing when homework is done! An Asbury Bus picks up at: We'll return to Five Points by 5:30. wednesday wnf setup | 3:30-4:30 come hang out after school and help us set up the prayer room and the open space rooms for WNF. hang out awhile longer and meet with us to pray at 5:00 before WNF begins. Wednesday night supper is also available for $6 across the street. we do this stuff every year...blow up sunday | september at the beginning of the school year our small groups each decide on a special event for outreach. The small groups plan the events and the students invite other friends to come hang out. these events may be individual small groups or whole grade events. it’s an awesome time of bonding for the groups and a great time to get other students involved in Fathom. groups did all sorts of different things like dinner and a movie, cook outs at leaders homes, game nights, or powder puff football. fall break mission trip/retreat | october depending on the length and time of fall break we go on either a mission trip or retreat. this is generally a smaller retreat where students get to know each other better and grow closer to the Lord. in the past we’ve also taken a team to Panama City, Panama to work with our mission partners and serve/ share the Gospel with the people in surrounding parts of Panama. fall prayer labyrinth | november the fall prayer labyrinth is designed to help you find and experience God. The labyrinth is a means of experiential worship, engaging your senses, and helping you slow down and listen to God. this is a HUGE setup job and we love our students to come help set up. it’s a really fun time of building set and transforming Five-Points into an amazing worship space. spring break mission trips | march urban ministries we spend a week repainting homes in low-income areas of birmingham. this is an amazing time to serve the community, build relationships within the youth ministry, and grow individually with the Lord...and of course, don’t forget about ultimate spoons international trips each year we take at least one international trip during spring break. In the past we’ve traveled to Panama, Costa Rica, and Colombia to minister to the people there and work with our missions partners in those areas. hometown missions embracing opportunities in our community to serve Jesus by loving others. We will be involved in various projects around the madison and Huntsville area. spring prayer labyrinth | easter week every year, our students stretch their hearts and minds to create artistic masterpieces portraying Jesus’ life and minstry. this year we are focusing on Jesus’ miracles while He was on earth and recognizing that He is still working miracles in our lives every day. prom breakfast setup | march dancing, food, and fun continue at Five Points after the prom until 2 am. come help us decorate, set up, and get ready for this great event! senior sunday serving | may each year we take the sunday before graduation and devote it to the senior class. it all begins with the senior breakfast. the sophomore and junior classes get to serve the seniors breakfast. it’s a great way to honor your friends as they begin this exciting time in their life. choir tours | may/june every year after school gets out our VOC (jr. high) and CHRIST (sr. high) choirs set out on their choir tours. VOC goes on a four-day mission tour. In 2009 they went to...... CHRIST choir travels througout the United States on a week long choir/ mission tour. CHRIST choir went to Washington DC where they sang on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. VBS and summer explosion | june VBS is a great time for students to get involved in serving at Asbury. We have VBS that starts at preschool age and goes to rising 4th grade. students are able to be crew leaders for the classes, help with the craft area, games, and worship/ skit times. Summer Explosion is VBS for rising 5th-8th graders. This is an awesome time for our senior high students to volunteer to hang out with the older elementary/middle school crowd. They can be crew leaders, help with activities such as soccer, capture the flag, art, cooking, or sewing. retreat servant | pre-retreat before any retreat or mission trip there is a TON of work to be done. we always have wonderful students who help us shop, pack, and prepare for these trips. these students save us from going crazy or forgetting anything. anytime there is a trip to go on and you have some free time come help us out. the big day is usually the thursday before an event. |
